"Solidarity on Children's Rights - Equal Treatment for All" Children's Rights Drawing Competition Exhibition Launched, inviting you to fulfill a life without discrimination!
2022-06-08"Microaggression" is hidden in various ways in all corners of society and unintentional words can cause harm to others while deepening social stereotypes. To promote the principle of "non-discrimination" in the Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), the Social and Family Affairs Administration (SFAA) of the Ministry of Health and Welfare held a children's rights drawing competition, with children and adolescents from junior high schools and below invited to make illustrations with the themes of " Solidarity on Children's Rights - Equal Treatment for All" and "Non-discrimination." The competition was divided into four-panel comic strips for the junior high school group, theme posters for the Grade 3 to 6 elementary school group and creative coloring for the Grade 1 to 2 elementary school and pre-school group. 3,347 entries were received and judged by a panel made up of professional artists, experts and practitioners on the UNCRC. The 30 finalists were selected based on the composition of their drawings and the pertinence of their works to the main theme.
The children and adolescents who participated in the drawing competition demonstrated their creativity and care for Taiwanese society as well as awareness of global human rights developments. The selection process was very competitive, with many rounds of voting and repeated discussions. The first place winner in the junior high school category was awarded to Peng Tong-Yu of Liou-Jia Senior High School in Hsinchu County for her painting entitled "End Child Labor, Everyone Has the Right to Education" which calls on society to value children’s equal rights to education. The first place winner in the Grade 3 to 6 elementary school group goes to Lin Che-Kuan of Fuxing Elementary School in Taipei City, who compared the UNCRC to the Menshen (Door Gods), which protects children from discrimination in a society of equality and respect. The Grade 1 to 2 elementary school and pre-school group use coloring lines as a base, starting from the garden, the world of books and even space, to create vibrant drawings filled with love and equality.
The judges were very impressed by the children's diverse compositions, use of colors and their keen observation and creativity. The works also conveyed diverse human rights values, including non-discrimination on the basis of race, body function and gender, in the hope of integrating the positive values of equality, friendship, respect and care into daily life. The panel members believe that this competition not only demonstrates the children's practice of the concept of equality, but also makes the public aware of the possible discrimination around their lives through the innocent perspectives of children, so that we all can do our part to protect the equal development opportunities of children and teenagers.
